Poirot Studies: Hercules Poirot clasps with a chain of riddles which challenges his naivety and show the author's vast imagination to be fine. Here the investigator is talking about the theft of a gem, which was said to be a mystery idol, millions of dollars in locked bonds, jewellers who invented an apparently impossible thieves, and even the capture of the British Prime Minister. In this case he is talking about the theft of a diamond. Poirot is using reasoning and deceit to disclose a murderer, but his enemies frequently are both more peculiar and more risky than mere killers. This is a beautiful and readable narrative.
